My Pears!
I have to show off one of my Christmas presents.
If you’ve been a blog reader for more than a few months,
you know that I can pears every year.
Every year.
So…
imagine my surprise
and my laughter
when I opened my first gift from my mom to find this:
Yep. Those are pears.
Mom pieced, appliquéd, and quilted this beautiful table runner.
Then she finished it off
with a custom label.
Thanks Mom!

Brown Bear, Brown Bear...
I have to show off one of Mom's latest quilts and the sweet baby it was created for:
As for Thomas's onesie: I fussy-cut a frog from the scraps. I applied it using head and bond and then zig-zagged around the edges. Too cute!

A New Baby, A New Quilt
Sorry, I have no pictures to show, but I didn't take my camera to the hospital yesterday. Thomas is the new son of a very close friend. His Mommy has loved my kids and cared for them like family. I gave her a few hand-made things, but none of my gifts came close to the beauty of this quilt my mom created for her.

Do you recognize these characters? That's right. Those are Eric Carle's illustrations from Bill Martin, Jr.'s Brown Bear, Brown Bear. Mom found this fabric and decided it would be perfect for Thomas's Mommy (an Early Childhood Educator). She pieced the quilt and my aunt quilted it. The quilt is truly incredible!
*Thanks for letting me show off Mom's work again! *

My Sewing Backstory-Part 1
I grew up surrounded by women who sewed and the men who loved them and let them accumulate stashes and wander through fabric stores. Rather than give you dates and details, I want to show you some of the things these women have created. Let's start with Mom.
Mom pieced this quilt for the BG's room. (I appliqued it and Aunt Kathy quilted it.)Mom made this one for my dear friend before John was born, but we forgot to get a picture until later--much later!
I'd venture to guess that Mom's given almost 50 baby quilts in the last 5 years, so the pictures could keep coming. But I'll stop for now. Mom, I hope you'll be okay with me showing off your work!
Stay tuned for more about my sewing backstory--I'm hunting down the pictures of quilts made by grandmothers and great grandmothers and even great-great-great-great-great grandmothers to show you next!

This one was made for me!
Mom is holding the quilt she made for Sister #3, a Double Wedding Ring.
